He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony. 33 Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. 34 For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. 35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
John 3:31-36 ESV
For God so loved the world, and in order to make peace between men and Him, He gave His only son to the world. Jesus is the Son and the ambassador from above. He was sent to the world to bear witness for the Father, and to bring people into His kingdom. But what did the world do to Him? He was humiliated, despised, and rejected. However, that did not stop His work. He finished salvation on the cross, and he passed on the baton of witness to His followers. When we accept Jesus and His salvation, by His grace, we are also brought into His team to bear witness for God. The baton is now on us! Such an honor to be chosen in the great team of Jesus and running the race for God! (Lord, open my eyes to see what an honor and blessing this is!) We were never told it would be an easy job, though. In fact, if our team captain had to go through so much suffering and rejection by the world, who are we to think that we can be exempt from these? But see what God has promised for His team! – “For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure” (v34). The Spirit without measure was with the Son when He was walking on earth, and now the same Spirit is also with us and lives in us! Just like joining His team is not by any deeds but by His grace, finishing His work and winning the race are also not by our own might or power, but by the power of the Spirit without measure.
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” (v36) Team, God’s love and grace are real, and so are His judgement and wrath. He loves sinners, but He hates sin! “For the wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23a). But thanks to the Lord for bearing the wages of sin and giving us the gift of life! – “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”. (Romans 6:23b) Team, many souls are still in need of this gift! Don’t be blind sighted by the evil one and let him fool you with fear and discouragement. What we are bringing to people is a free gift of eternal life! Let’s press on and finish this race by winning people for God! There will be obstacles and bumps along the way, but the One who is above all and holding all things in His hand is our captain; and the Spirit without measure is with us. We also know that final victory shall belong to Christ and His church. Let’s finish this winning race strong!
Go! Team Jesus!
Dear Lord, it’s by your grace and it’s such a great honor to be chosen to your team! You’ve never promised the race to be easy, but you’ve promised to be with me and your Spirt also lives in me. Thank you for your free gift of eternal life. Open the eyes of many so they can see their need of the salvation! Help me to fight a good fight and win people for you. So thankful to be in your team!
