12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
John 16:12-15 ESV
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16:12)
While Jesus was pouring out His heart to the disciples at His last moments before the cross, there were things that He couldn’t say to them because it was just not at the right time when the disciples could bear them. It takes time for us to understand Him and His words, and it also takes us time to grow that faith to bear what the Lord has to say. The true meaning of love; the meaning of sacrifices and suffering; the meaning of living for God; of His plans, and much more. These are things that take more than mental knowledge from a human brain to fully comprehend. The Lord knows our limits. He understands and accepts our limits. He is also patient with us and allows time for us to grow our wisdom and faith.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:13)
While God knows our limits, He sends us a helper! The Holy Spirit is sent to guide us into all the truth! All the truth! That is all things about Jesus, about God – “for he will take what is mine and declare it to you”(v14), including His mysteries deep in His heart! We worship God, who is divine, limitless in wisdom, love, and everything. While His mystery is too big for us to understand, He is even more mysteriously open to us. The limitless God, willingly and eagerly sharing His truth, His heart, and Himself with us, who are so limited in so many ways. How many times that the Holy Spirit guides us gently to understand His words, His ways, and His heart! How many times that the Holy Spirit also gently speaks to us, comforts us and encourages us! And when the Spirit comes, He never leaves.
Dear Lord, help me to be open and humbly submit to the Holy Spirit and His gentle presence and guidance. Lord, may you teach me and speaks to me without hindrance.
