To Whom We Belong (“God is My Shepherd ” Devotional)

But now, this is what the Lord says—
    he who created you, Jacob,
    he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

Isaiah 43:1

We belong to Him as a creation and as the redeemed

1. First and foremost, as Paster Rick said “it’s not about me!” There is a creator God who started all these with a purpose. He’s doing it for His pleasure. At the same time, He formed us with love and a good plan so that He can share His love with us. He blessed what He made. Everything belongs to Him
2. He saved us so He can call us His own (again). We are His not only because He created us but also redeemed us. We were once lost in our transgression. We left His pasture. But Jesus, the good shepherd came and found us. He paid the ransom. Now He knows us by name and He calls us by name! God looks at you and said “My precious creation, perfectly made as I pleased and bought with the blood of my Son.”

Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100: 3

We are His Sheep

God is our shepherd which made us His sheep. Not only that, we are the sheep of His pasture. There’s no need to find greener grass somewhere else. All we need to do is to follow the shepherd.

So….

Only when we realize these truths, we can rest and have peace. The sheep don’t come up with a own plan. They follow the shepherd everywhere. Likewise, though given the free will, we are to choose our shepherd, choose His way and choose His path. Let’s not live life as if we are the owner but like sheep trying to following the shepherd wherever He goes. Let’s humble ourselves and submit to God’s ownership. Let’s re-orient ourselves to put God in the center (not us in the center)

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for being our shepherd. You are the big shepherd with love and power. You take good care of us, You know us by name and you know our needs. I can rest in You knowing I’m yours. Amen
