2 Timothy, Devotional, God's Passion, My Passion, Luke, New Testament

Passion to Love (Hosea 1:2, 2:18-20 and Ruth 1:16-18, 4:15 Devotional)

God’s Passion:

When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, “Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord.”
Hosea 1:2
In that day I will make a covenant for them
with the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky
and the creatures that move along the ground.
Bow and sword and battle
I will abolish from the land,
so that all may lie down in safety.
19 I will betroth you to me forever;
I will betroth you in righteousness and justice,
    in love and compassion.
20 I will betroth you in faithfulness,
and you will acknowledge the Lord.
Hosea 2:18-20

My Passion
16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” 18 When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.
Ruth 1:16
15 He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth.”
Ruth 4:15

Love is created and demonstrated by God.
On one mother’s day, Ming said, mother’s love is the greatest AND is created by God. He used mother’s love to illustrate the greatest love ever of God who created all love in our relationships. A light bulb went off in my heart. I felt like I knew God’s love a little bit more.

When we read Hosea, we may feel that God’s request was unreasonable and maybe even outrageous. But, is a young woman giving up sleep, work, health, cleanness, … for a newborn baby more reasonable? Is it more “logical” for parents to change diapers and clean up the aftermath for their baby? God is making a point here for the unfaithful Jews that even though they rejected God, He loved them anyways. That is the nature of God’s love and simply the nature of God Himself

Every movie has a love story, even Rambo (if know who he is). Deep down in our hearts, we know without love life is incomplete. God has that built-in in all of us and hence the two greatest commandments are ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matt 22:37-39. It may be your in-law, your spouse, or even a stranger, God wants us to love them as ourselves. That is also the passion that drives us to bring people to Christ knowing that’s the best thing we could offer.

God created us to share His love. He also gave us the capacity to love him back and love others. May love be your highest principle in love and the passion that drives you forward.

Dear Lord, thank you for your unfailing love. I love you and please help us love like you. Amen
