A Life of Ascent (Psalm 134, Song of Ascents, Devotional)

Psalm 134 A Song of Ascents

1 Come, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who stand by night in the house of the Lord!
2 Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the Lord!
3 May the Lord bless you from Zion, he who made heaven and earth!

This is a beautiful closing to the Songs of Ascents. The worshippers came to Zion in pilgrimage to bless the LORD, singing the songs of Psalms 120 to 134. And the Songs of Ascents end with a call to the priests, the servants of the Lord, to continue their service of praise, and that God’s blessing would go with each of them as they return home from Zion.  The blessing does not remain in Jerusalem but flows down from there.

Many people live their life chasing after their own dreams and expect their life to be an ascending one, but only to find they are living in vain and emptiness at the end. A true life of ascent leads to services and worship to the Lord, day or night.  A true life of ascent also brings blessing to the people.  We are pilgrims in this world, what is driving you to move upward and forward? And what do you want to see at your finish line?  May we boldly and faithfully pursue God and the dreams He put in our hearts, and live an ascending pilgrimage life.

Dear Lord, may my life be a song of praise to You and a blessing to others.
