Everyone Has a Story (Hebrews 11:32-34 Devotional)

32 And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.

Hebrews 11:32-34Everyone Has a Story

The majority of the Bible consists of the stories of many people, much more than any other type of literature. This is what interested God and what He thinks we can all learn from. Some characters in the Bible are popular among believers and non-believers, but there are even more not-so-well-known ones among Christians. Yet together, their stories composed the Bible.

Hebrew 11 is almost a miniature of the Bible. The earlier part of the chapter consists of the stories of the most famous Biblical characters but towards the end, a list of perhaps not so well-known characters. Can you tell the stories of each one named here? One thing that united them together is that their faith in God allowed them to do great things for Him:

  1. Conquered kingdoms.
  2. Enforced justice.
  3. Obtained promises.
  4. Stopped the mouths of lions.
  5. Quenched the power of fire.
  6. Escaped the edge of the swords.
  7. Weak to strong.
  8. Put armies to flight.

You may not be able to do all of these, as none of them had either. But you can do one of these, which one do you think you can?  I hope you see

You are continuing the stories of the giants in the Bible.

It is hard NOT to sing along when this song is on! Here is the chorus part of the song. – RaisinsApples

Blessed Assurance

Written by Fanny Crosby

1. Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine!

O what a fore-taste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,

born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

2. Perfect submission, perfect delight!

Visions of rapture now burst on my sight.

Angels descending bring from above,

echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

3. Perfect submission all is at rest.

I in my Savior am happy and blest.

Watching waiting, looking above,

filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Chorus:

This is my story, this is my song.

Praising my Savior all the day long.

This is my story, this is my song.

Praising my Savior all the day long.
