16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.
1 John 4:16-17
Love is NOT a one-way street. Perfect love cannot be just one side loving the other side. It has to be both ways. We have read that God loves us so much that He sent His only son to die for us. We mustn’t just know it but believe it wholeheartedly. If we believe in this, it is only natural that we love God.
What can we do to love God? It is not by what we do. We love God because we love Him and do things for Him. John urged brothers and sisters to abide in God, and in that way, love is perfected in us. Abides in Him means we have a continuous sense of His presence and a continuous fellowship with Him. We do not only come to Him on Sunday. We think about Him and communicate with Him continuously.
