For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. 5 He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord. 6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
Psalm 33:4-12 ESV
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 ESV
Someone once said, “the only constant in life is change.” This statement is true for almost everything on earth, as changes are inevitable. Things change, and so do we. And the more changes occur in life, the more our hearts and soul long for a constant. Like when a ship is docked on moving water, it needs an anchor. The anchor secures the vessel in a certain position and keeps it from drifting away due to current or wind. Our heart longs for an anchor that keeps us in place without drifting. But if everything is constantly changing, what can we hold to as our life anchor? No one wants to keep on catching a slippery bar of soap in the water, and no one wants to keep having to aim at a moving target.
Where can we find that constant?
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.
Psam 33:11)
Our God is that constant! God is immutable. That is, He is unchanging. Whenever I find myself being troubled by the chaos of this world, I find peace in the presence of my unchanging God. Because when God is constant, it means –
God’s plan and will are unchanging. Whatever He had in mind for you and me since the beginning of time, it remains the same despite all the changes in this world. You and I may give up through time, but God never will.
God’s commands, laws, and promises are unchanging. God’s words do not conform to this ever-changing world. Instead, it has the power to shine in our hearts like a beacon and guide us every step of the way. Despite all of the changes, the Bible remains a timeless piece.
God’s love and grace are unchanging. His love for us started before time. And that love has never changed even when we fell short of His glory. We may fail to love Him, but His love and grace never fail and never changes.
All of the attributes and characteristics we learned about God through the “God is…” series remain the same. He is always God Almighty, my loving Father, my Help, my Shepherd, My banner, my Righteousness, and my Strength. He always provides, heals, gives peace, and He is always there!
…and so much more!
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8
This is a great and unconditional promise of God. No matter how everything else changes, He remains the same. We can always count on Him to do what He said and love us the way He has always been. Indeed we are a blessed nation because God is our Lord. (Psalm 33:12). No matter how uncertain this life can be, we can find peace and hope in the solid anchor of our soul. He is always the same yesterday, today, and forever.
