37 But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” 38 And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. 41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. 42 And they all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. 44 And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.
Jesus said, “You give them something to eat.”
Jesus asked, “How many loaves do you have?”
The twelve disciples had no food at all! ? Yes, before they went to the wilderness, they didn’t even have time to eat, and they were utterly exhausted from supporting thousands of people coming to the wilderness to seek them.
Jesus commanded them to feed thousands of people and asked how many loaves were there. It was simply impossible to supply their needs! It was unreasonable to fulfill the request of the Lord Jesus! How could so much food be provided in the wilderness?
Do you hear Jesus’ request? Do you also think it is impossible?
Many chose not to hear! Despised it or ignored it! But a little kid heard it, and he responded, and he took out all his five loaves and two fish and presented them to Jesus!
Others might say: It’s getting dark, and there’s still a long way to go home! (There might be no food at home.) Please save the food for yourself!
There were only five loaves and two fish. It might be only enough for the kid. What would it be to so many people!?
The child chose not to be a consumer of religion/faith. He did not only listen to the teachings. Instead, he took Jesus’ request more seriously than his own needs! Jesus was worthy for him to give all he had! Even if he would starve, he was willing to give everything to Jesus!
Oh, LORD! Please help me to listen carefully to your words and understand your requests. Teach me to simply respond to your words. Help me not to worry about how much I have, or what I have is enough. I just want to respond to you in my simple faith! To satisfy you and manifest the glory of God!
