5 Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, 6 who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. 7 For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. 8 Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
3 JOHN 5-8 ESV
Championship rings will be awarded to the winning team of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals. The ring will not only be presented to the most valuable players of the team but will be awarded to all team members. The team’s players, coaches and training staff, team managers, and front office heads will each receive a championship ring and share the same honor of being named the champion. Each team member had a different role to play. Though only five players were playing on the court each time, the team effort and contribution from each individual made success happen.
We each have a role to play in God’s family also. Here is the truth if you ever wonder how important your role is in His family. In the great work of God, there is no task too small or trivial. John praised Gaius for his hospitality to other Christian travelers and ministers. Gaius may not have been the one fighting on the mission field, but he opened his home for those who needed a home to stay in while traveling for the work of God. John called what Gaius did a faithful thing. It was love in action. And by opening his home to the traveling brothers and sisters, made him a fellow worker of the truth and partaker of the honor and glory to come.
No matter how different, how big, or small our role may seem, we are all fellow workers for the truth. Whether serving as a missionary overseas, serving in our home church, or simply serving from our home, we are taking part in God’s glorious work.
May we each do our part cheerfully and faithfully! One day, we will see our Master face to face. He crowns us with the rewards He treasured up for us, and He will say –
Well done, good and faithful servant!
