God is My Father (John 1 : 9-18 Devotional)

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.

John 1:9-18

As we begin this series “God is…”, the first thing I want to share is the relationship that occurs many many times in the Bible. God is our Father! The word “father” appears more than 200 times in Genesis, and the last verse of the Old Testament also refers to restoring the relationship between father and son. God has always longed for us to enjoy his fatherly love! The Lord Jesus taught us to pray saying “our Father in heaven”. God who listens to our prayer is our Father. The Gospel of John mentions that Jesus Christ came to give life to the world, and this life is to make us the children of God. So that we have the most intimate relationship with God! We are born of God and have God’s DNA within us! We can receive God’s love and all blessings, understand God’s heart, and love God!

No one has ever seen God, the only begotten Son in the bosom of the Father has revealed Him! When Jesus Christ came to earth, one of the most important tasks was to show us the Father! Did you see that? Have you understood the heart of the heavenly Father, lived out the joy of a child, delighted in God every day, and danced with him?

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thanks for loving me so much that you gave me Your only Son! Please help me to understand your heart, and know my identity in you! Live up the eternal life in Christ and rejoice in you!
